Google Photos is much more than just another photo gallery app. This handy app backs up your photos across multiple devices, has automatic organization features, and a smart search tool. Google Photos also allows commenting on photos and the ability to easily share albums and individual images with your contacts.
Google gives users free, unlimited storage for photos up to 16 megapixels and videos up to 1080p resolution. The program also analyzes photos, identifying them with various visual features and subjects. There are many great features to Google photos and why you may want to consider them if you are looking for a new photo app to use.
We compiled a list of 8 things you may not know about Google Photos.
*Make your own GIFs
Google Photos let you create GIFs with any photo you’d like. To do this you simply choose the sequence of images you want, tap the + icon, choose animation, and you have your GIF!
*Search for people, places, and objects
Google Photos uses advanced image recognition which allows the program to recognize the subject of your photos quite easily. At the bottom right, you can click the search icon and from that box you can type what you are looking for. Examples of things you can search for would include food, cards, or your pet, a wedding you attended, etc.
*Group similar faces together and label
Google Photos groups similar faces together. This allows you to search your photo library for certain people. This feature is private to your account so they won’t appear to anyone you share the photos with.
To create a label for a face group, tap on “who is this” located at the top of a face group. Enter a name or nickname. After you label a face group, you can search with that label using the search box.
*Back up photos from other apps
You can back up photos from other apps such as Instagram, WhatsApp, etc. By default, Google Photos will auto-backup photos taken with the default camera. In order to use this feature, all you need to know is where these apps store the photos they take.
*Select multiple photos with a single tap
With such easy access to cameras we have thousands of pictures on our computers. There is a feature in Google photos that allows you to select multiple photos at a time to batch move or delete photos.
*Undelete photos
That sinking feeling you get when you accidently delete a photo is one of the worst. All the memories associated with that photo seem to be gone. Google photos holds on to images for 60 days in the trash. All you have to do is go to the trash folder and undelete it.
*Shared albums
You can share entire photo albums in Google Photos. From the app you can click the share icon. From there you can choose if you want to send them a link or select an app to send it through.
*Hide where photos were taken
The location data stored with your photos helps the program group photos together. Some people don’t like this information to be stored. There is a feature in Google Photos that allows you to remove the geo location.
Google Photos is one of the many photo apps available today. No one app is best, get your hands on a few of them and decide what you think is best for your storage and usage needs.
